Public workshops are $95/person. The workshops are a full day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Introduction
Why do tracking? Fun, research, change policy, protect wildlife
Overview of non-invasive survey methods: tracks, scat, burrows/nests, fur/feathers, trails, browse,
observation, cameras, track plates, genetics, attraction; review handouts; tracking styles (Elbrock/Caitlin)
Morning Field class
This is the essence of the class. CFW will teach field identification techniques based on what is found
in the area.
Lunch
Afternoon Field Class
Camera tracking techniques will be introduced showing cameras, camera placement, recording data
and interpreting data. Show previous results on computer.
Continue field identification from the morning.
Wrap Up
Note: All participants must sign a liability waiver, which will be available at the event, prior to participation
in any Connectivity for Wildlife workshop.
General Information
Connectivity for Wildlife’s educational workshops examine non-invasive survey methods focused on
wildlife tracking and camera trap techniques. Using scientifically robust protocols, participants will learn:
- To determine wildlife absence/presence
- Wildlife directional movement
- Identification of tracks to determine species and, sometimes, the sex
- Identification of scat
- Identification of trails (a series of tracks)
- Identification of other non-invasive wildlife detection methods such as dens, fur, beds, bones, scratches and digs
- The basics of motion activated camera traps such as how to set the camera, placement
near trails, identification of photos and downloading data
Workshops will be located in a local habitat known to have a high diversity of wildlife species presence.
They will be a full day from 9 am-5 pm. Participants will bring appropriate clothing, water and lunch/snack.
Specific details will be provided upon registration.
Classes will be taught by highly trained and experienced professional trackers and educators.
All instructors have many years both in classroom and field instruction.
